Online business communications 'beneficial'

Environmental friendliness is one reason for conducting company meetings online instead of face-to-face conferences, according to business website HR Zone. The site suggests that it is greener to communicate via the web, in addition to being a way of saving time and money. Indeed, there is an array of technology available to firms looking to link up with customers and employees alike, including IP telephony and other mobile communications. A YouGov survey conducted in 2007 found that unnecessary face-to-face meetings cost businesses in the UK £17 billion each year, which indicates that organisations may want to find cheaper business communications elsewhere. One tip for firms who do decide to hold meetings over the internet is to ensure that all members of the conversation have the chance to interact and respond to the suggestions made. The online portal says that whoever is running the meeting must try to keep everyone involved. This week, technology publication TMCnet described web conferencing as "a real-time technology".
