VoIP uptake to increase

Over a quarter of small and medium enterprises (SME) in Europe are using a VoIP solution, with a further 17.6 per cent planning to introduce one, according to research.

The information from industry analyst IDC shows IT-based solutions remain among the options most favoured by businesses.

Research also revealed cost benefits are "the main driver of VoIP adoption", while companies with IT issues similar to those faced by bigger firms may be looking at VoIP as it provides "a single point of accountability".

IDC's European Vertical Markets senior research analyst, Nina Bonagura, said these two factors should be taken on board by service providers looking to maximise opportunities in the SME market.

She also said: "Still, underlining the impact that VoIP has on overall productivity it is crucial to build on long-term success."

Research by industry analyst Quocirca for RadioFrame Networks recently said the "reliability and quality" of business mobiles is becoming more important as increasing numbers of workers use them for VoIP services.
