VoIP 'recession proof'

Jobs related to VoIP are recession-proof, it has been claimed. A recent article for online news resource InfoWorld.com suggested that the IT and communications sector is "upbeat" with some areas of expertise being safer than others. Speaking to the website, Jennifer Mauney, vice president of Robert Half Technology, stated that VoIP and wireless technologies are perceived as a strong IT measure, where modest outlay will produce good returns. Ms Mauney added that she anticipates the sector will stay strong over the coming months, noting that it is "ripe" for individuals looking to head down the project management track in IT. This follows news that unified communications has been named by analyst firm Gartner as one of its top ten technologies to watch over the next three years. It noted that the communications industry will undergo significant consolidation as applications shift to off-the-shelf server and operating systems. Other technologies included on the list were virtualisation, green IT and cloud computing.
