VoIP optimisation 'benefits SMEs'

Small and medium sized business enterprises (SMEs) should look to optimise their communications with services like VoIP and video conferencing, one analyst asserts.

Writing in Computer Weekly, Steve Broadhead argues that such services have become increasingly accessible for SMEs that are looking to improve voice communications.

Previously reserved for larger businesses, he claims that new technology has increasingly allowed vendors to develop products that are tailored to the needs of SMEs.

He argues that in deciding which VoIP system to use, it is important for businesses to consider four factors: performance, reliability, flexibility and user control.

User control is particularly important for well managed business communications, he suggests, in that it allows for greater protection of company data over VoIP and other internet communications platforms.

Mr Broadhead's comments are echoed by industry analyst Steve Cohen in Computing SA.

He argues that increasingly SMEs are demanding enterprise-grade business communications technology capable of delivering the reliability and flexibility essential to business operations.
