VoIP on mobiles possible for business communications

Company owners could use VoIP on their mobile phones as a form of business communications while the telephony is developed, it has been suggested.

Use of VoIP in mobile communications is likely to become popular over time, a council member of the Internet Telephony Service Providers' Association said.

Colin Duffy said mobiles with Wi-Fi capabilities are an alternative to current mobile VoIP phones, which he said "are useful around the house" but have not been particularly popular so far for business communications.

He continued: "What I think will be the proper solution to proper mobile VoIP is a dual phone - an old-fashioned cell phone that is also a VoIP phone simultaneously, so that when it picks up a Wi-Fi signal it uses that instead of the mobile [network]."

A global VoIP update by iLocus found access server license sales had increased by 67 per cent and traffic risen by 35 per cent globally.
