VoIP 'now accepted by business'

Companies are embracing IP telephony services (VoIP) and view it as the future of their communications systems, it has been suggested.

According to a Research and Markets report, VoIP is no longer viewed with suspicion by the majority of firms as adoption rates are increasing, with cost savings and flexibility the driving forces behind this growth.

"VoIP has become mainstream and customers of all kinds are deploying hosted and managed VoIP services to make their voice networks more flexible and solve their business communications problems," said Margaret Hopkins, principal analyst with Exegesys and the author of the Research and Markets study.

The report highlighted that companies large and small are investigating VoIP technologies, although it suggested that smaller firms are more likely to need education about the services on offer before making a decision.

It was also noted that multinational corporations are going one step further by leading the adoption of cutting edge unified communications systems, which merge voice, email, web conferencing and other business applications.
