VoIP market is 'robust and will see growth'

The VoIP market this year has been "robust" with technology improvements leading to more people taking it up, according to a new report. The Global VoIP – Overview and Statistics study from Research and Markets has found the number of firms choosing VoIP across the world has increased in the past two years. It depicts China, Japan and the US as the "world hottest markets" for the services but Europe as the main innovator for technology. The report adds the only issue standing in the tool's way is the security of the communications device, but "substantial growth" in the industry is still predicted. It also discusses whether the sector should be regulated by a body such as Ofcom and if so how much should this occur. The regulator for the communications industry Ofcom has recently ruled VoIP providers must allow 999 calls across their network and may have to include technology which allows the caller's location to be known.
