VoIP innovation 'brings high-end features'

The continued development of VoIP technologies has seen previously high-end features included in affordable handsets this year, it has been suggested.

VoIP News writer Robert Poe pointed out that earlier versions of internet-ready phones have only had graphical user interfaces at the high-end of the market.

However, 2007 has seen the inclusion of such features among cheaper models which have improved the user experience of IP telephony systems.

"Almost every aspect of the industry, from hardware to software to services, saw a variety of large and small breakthroughs from new and established players," Mr Poe wrote.

"Some of the most creative advances involved mixing and matching the benefits of VoIP and traditional telephony."

Other innovative measures highlighted by Mr Poe include the rollout of Microsoft's Office Communications Server system, updates to IP PBX technology and unified communications advances which allow VoIP calls to be made directly from emails by clicking on the contact's name.
