VoIP 'has benefits for mobile users'

While VoIP has advantages for many business customers, it can have increased benefits for those who rely on mobile communications, it has been suggested.

According to Robert Poe, writing on VoIP-News, a major advantage of the technology is it allows fixed and mobile communications to be converged.

The benefits of this range from having to put just one number on a business card, to customers only needing to leave messages from one call, to having calls simultaneously direct to more than one line.

Mr Poe also writes: "Taking a big step beyond sharing calls between desk and mobile phones, UC (unified communications) lets you make use of business phone systems' functions and features via a mobile handset."

He also claims other advantages include being about to use mobile VoIP over cellular 3G data networks and the ability for voice messages to be sent over email as audio files.

Last week, TMC editor Michelle Robart suggested VoIP can increase a user's ability to undertake conferencing and boost their flexibility.
