VoIP 'gives comms global scope'

IP telephony opens up the possibility of improved functionality in countries where telecommunications have previously been difficult or non-existent, it has been claimed.

According to online industry resource TMCnet, this radical global scope is making VoIP services an increasingly attractive option.

"With the rise in the demand for the latest VoIP solutions, the internet telephony providers are making their way into the advanced telecom sector, aided and assisted by new and more innovative tools," the publication notes.

New VoIP technology is allowing businesses flexibility in connecting multiple centres of operations as well as mobile staff, with five top benefits identified.

These include unlimited calls, per-second charging, scalability and security, as well as new functionality afforded by bundled services such as caller ID and video conferencing.

Meanwhile, a new report by Aberdeen Group has found that best-in-class organisations have reduced telecoms costs across all sites by an average of 21 per cent by implementing VoIP systems.
