VoIP 'better quality and cheaper than PSTN'

VoIP provides better call quality and cuts the cost of business communications, compared to PSTN services, according to a source.

A blogger on the ZDNet website, Kristenkiya, said that as the VoIP industry is not subjected to high levels of regulation the cost of the services is "considerably" cheaper.

It is particularly useful for businesses which are in different locations, especially if they are across international borders.

The website says IP telephony is "perfect for handling the rising communication costs" and make long-distance and international call much easier.

By using a high-speed broadband connection, VoIP provides better voice quality than a PSTN service, it also means that data, video and voice can be exchanged on the same line at the same time.

Other attractive features of the technology, according to the website, include three-way and conference calling and call forwarding.

TMCNet recently said that IP telephony opens up the opportunity for countries where telecommunications have previously been difficult or non-existent.
