Top threats predicted

Analysts have released a list of threats that businesses will face in the next twelve months - and the importance of protecting against mobile phone and VoIP threats is emphasised.

E-security advice firm the SANS Institute compiled the list in a consultation with industry veterans and collectively they placed mobile security as the fourth biggest threat to businesses, according to Continuity Central.

Issues with VoIP security were marked the ninth biggest risk, with exploits such as phishing becoming ever more sophisticated.

The news follows recent recommendations by one analyst that businesses can ensure their VoIP networks are secure by treating them with the same degree of security as their existing networks.

Mark Chapple, an information security adviser, states that IP telephony is here to stay and that companies who have not yet adopted the technology should do so with security in mind.

"Everything you've learned about operating system security is still true with virtualised servers," he advises.
