Owners can stay in touch with VoIP

VoIP is improving business communications and making it easier for owners to remain in touch with staff while out of the office, an expert has claimed.

Colin Duffy, a council member with the Internet Telephony Services Providers' Association (ITSPA), said it helped management keep track of events while on the move.

SMS alerts to mobile phones can inform owners if they have a voicemail, while MP3 recordings can also be sent to email inboxes.

Mr Duffy said using VoIP for voice communications also has the benefit of giving businesses a professional look by redirecting mobiles calls to landlines.

He explained: "If your only contact number is a mobile phone number, people are quite suspicious of you.

"Customers prefer a landline number, partly because it's cheaper to call, but mostly because it shows that you're a real, grounded business."

Research by T-Mobile has found owners can spend the equivalent of 32.5 days per year out of the office.

When combined with an average of 25 days per year holiday for employees, this means teams can be hampered unless effective business communications are put in place.
