New VoIP study encourages close monitoring

An American-based study of 240 Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service providers has concluded that user satisfaction will only be fully achieved with close monitoring systems that ensure clarity and security.

It addressed a current shortfall in the number of companies offering adequate monitoring services in the US market, with 46 per cent of VoIP providers stating that they will not implement management solutions on initial deployment of the service.

A spokesperson for the company that commissioned the study told Centre Daily that the findings illustrated that businesses need to address voice and data management solutions when switching to a unified communications system.

"VoIP and VoIP applications have the potential to offer tremendous cost savings as well as increased user productivity, but must be closely managed," advised Criss Scruggs, product marketing manager at the company.

The report also backs up recent claims that denial of service attacks will be a significant threat to VoIP systems, highlighting the need for businesses to ensure that they are adequately protected.
