Nearly half of UK firms 'ready for VoIP'

A new study has found that 39 per cent of UK companies were moving towards a VoIP installation to improve business communications.

One in ten of those businesses included in the survery had already adopted an IP telephony deployment, while only 16 per cent responded that they had made no plans to adopt VoIP services.

Lesley Hansen, marketing director for Teleware, which commissioned the study, said: "In the long term, the move to VoIP is inevitable. I do not think there are any technological stumbling blocks anymore."

Online resource CRN reports that another principal analyst commented that the rate at which different companies adopt VoIP solutions will vary depending on individual corporate requirements.

Meanwhile, TMCnet offers advice for those companies planning to make the move to VoIP services. During a live web-based seminar, industry analyst Brad Herrington advises businesses on essential questions to be addressed when adopting a new VoIP system.

He commented that it is important for firms to look at future growth, remote working connectivity, as well as network support capabilities when planning a new IP telephony system to ensure that it responds to business needs.
