Natural cosmetics retailer opts for VoIP solution

Internal communications at the successful natural cosmetics seller Lush are to be conducted over an IP voice network rather than legacy phone lines as the firm looks to cut costs.

From the fourth quarter of this year, the calls between stores and the retailer's Poole head office are to be free - which it is hoped will improve communication across the branches of the firm.

This VoIP system is not the only internet-based system planned by Lush, however, as it is to update its internal messaging service this summer and according to Lush retail systems manager Chris Risbey, the company is "also looking into the possibility of using online timesheets at some point in 2009".

Lush has embraced IP solutions in recent months by fine-tuning its web offering through increased security features for its online store.

Data protections procedures have been beefed up through compliance with the Payment Card Industry security standard, which includes 12 rules set out by major credit card firms such as Visa and Mastercard.

This follows the surge of interest in data security measures following the recent breaches at government organisations which placed millions of people's private data at risk.
