'More to VoIP than savings'

Extra benefits to using a VoIP solution, rather than cost savings, have been highlighted.

Writing on TMC, editor Michelle Robart points out the business communications tool results in cheaper calls than its landline or mobile equivalent but suggests other advantages can be derived from the technology.

The article claims conferencing can become easier using VoIP as when combined with the relevant software it can allow users from across the globe to connect, while other features allow it to be linked up to Bluetooth and increase the product's flexibility.

In addition, she writes: "Another must-have VoIP feature for freelancers and business owners is real time collaboration, which goes beyond instant chats and video conferencing. Desktop collaboration add-ons can make it even easier to use VoIP for business."

The editor also suggests VoIP can be used to record information such as sensitive conversations and business deals, while some systems also go beyond instant messaging and video conferencing to allow real time collaboration.

Recently, Network World suggested companies decide on a strategy for managing their IP telephony system before implementing it, to avoid experiencing problems.
