Fixed-line sales faltering

Fixed-line telecoms sales throughout Europe are falling due to an increased market interest in new mobile products and VoIP services, a new report claims.

According to analysis house Report Buyer's 2007 European Telecoms, Mobile and Broadband study, the European fixed-line telecoms market is expected to grow between just two and four per cent as VoIP, broadband and mobile communications services steal a share of sales.

The group notes that whilst the VoIP market is comparatively small, sales of IP telephony products are doubling year-on-year, with the effect the technology is having on fixed-line telecoms said to be "universal".

In some countries, incumbent fixed-line operators are losing two per cent of customers annually to emergent VoIP and mobile communications technology.

Convergence between fixed and mobile devices is said to be an area of strong growth in the future as incumbent operators look to provide unified solutions for clients that support usage habits.

Report Buyer offers international market analysis across hundreds of industry sectors.
