European VoIP subscriptions increasing

New research has shown that the number of VoIP subscriptions in European is increasing.

Writing on TelecomsEurope, Paul Brodsky from TeleGeography reveals at the end of 2007 there were 25.3 million consumer VoIP lines installed in western Europe.

This shows an increase from 15 million in 2006 and a jump from the 6.5 2005 VoIP lines which were present in 2005.

In addition, Mr Brodsky writes on the website: "TeleGeography projects that western European VoIP subscribers will top 37 million and will account for 29 per cent of western European fixed lines by the end of 2008."

He also claims that the main driver for this growth is "aggressively priced" products delivered bundles of voice, broadband and video services.

Findings from the firm show that France has the greatest VoIP presence with a 43 per cent household penetration and Spain has the lowest at two per cent - with the UK seeing 12 per cent of homes deploy the solution.

Recently, James Awad of Octasic wrote on EE Times that the VoIP infrastructure will allow the transition from voice to video services take place in the future.
