Companies 'need to be willing to pay for good VoIP applications'

Businesses looking to take on VoIP services need to be willing to pay for a good application, it has been claimed.

Setting out a strategy with the "wrong mindset" will lead to an increase in the security risks of deploying VoIP, reports computing.co.uk

Opting for a closed system, which runs VoIP through a secure wide area network, costs more but ensures calls are run through a "secure backbone", according to John Rees, director of 8el.

He told the website security risks are increased if VoIP is used merely for cost eradication than for cost control.

"Security is a risk with any form of IT but cost control rather than cost eradication is the smart thinking that will allow businesses to manage VoIP security threats more effectively," he added.

It was claimed recently that security is an important consideration for organisations planning to install a new telecommunications system to ensure classified company information is protected.
