Businesses 'do not recognise' VoIP benefits

Some small businesses are failing to realise the benefits of using VoIP services for their voice communications needs, an industry body has stated.

Colin Duffy, a council member of the Internet Telephony Service Providers' Association (Itspa), has said that small firms can "get a lot out of VoIP", but that many are failing to use the service.

This is largely due to a lack of awareness, he claims, with those who have installed a VoIP system reporting that they are very happy with the service.

He added that VoIP offers small business the kind of voice functionality that has until recently only been available to large companies.

"Telephone extensions, music on hold, call transfer. They can get them now for almost nothing," he asserts.

Mr Duffy also reports that small firms are now beginning to realise the benefits of VoIP, with a 12.5 per cent month-on-month growth rate reported in the sector.
