Blogger highlights clear VoIP security advice

ZDNet blogger Russell Shaw has brought attention to VoIP security advice that he suggests is easy to understand and covers the basic tenets of keeping calls protected.

Directing readers to comment by SearchSecurity's Mike Chapple, Mr Shaw noted the advice was both "succinct" and provided information that it "most certainly does not hurt to repeat".

Mr Chapple's advice called on firms to separate their VoIP services via a virtual server - which should stop attacks on data information breaching the voice lines.

In addition, he called on firms to monitor their VoIP security carefully and prepare to deal with new problems that arise ahead of time.

This can be achieved by 'locking down' VoIP communication systems through the use of security software and firewalls, as well as by stripping the system of unwanted extras.

"If you reduce your footprint and deny the bad guys an entry point onto your systems, you'll lower the likelihood of an attack," he explained.
