Euro businesses still spending on VoIP

A recent report has found the European small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) are continuing to spend on VoIP services, vnunet.com said.

Introducing cost-efficient technologies like VoIP is important for SMEs, according to the IDC's European Vertical Market survey, due to the current economic environment.

Mid-market companies have been especially "rather dynamic" in the way they have taken onboard new technologies, the IDC said.

Nina Bonagura, a senior research analyst at the firm, said: "Underlining the impact that VoIP has on overall productivity, it is crucial to build on longer-term success.''

She added that VoIP service providers needed to focus on advertising the reduced complexity and reduced cost benefits of their technology in order to gain interest from SMBs.

Research from the group found 17.6 per cent of the 1,473 SMBs surveyed planned to introduce VoIP software over the course of the next 12 months. Over a quarter already have done so.

The European Union's recent survey found 22 per cent of homes in the UK now use VoIP to make calls.
