Global VoIP to be boosted by large firms

Large enterprises are expected to fuel the global business VoIP market, it has emerged.

A study by market research firm Pike & Fischer has predicted there will be more than five million VoIP lines in place by 2010.

This is set to rise to a total of 7.8 million by 2012, while revenues could top $6 billion (£3.1 billion) as a result of the growing increase of IP telephony.

Rich Power, analyst and author of the report, said large companies will have an advantage as the market evolves with greater in-built resources to adopt VoIP than smaller rivals.

He added: "There is just too much at stake to risk changes to their communications systems unless they fully understand the risks and potential rewards."

It was recently revealed VoIP technology is continuing, particularly in the European market, which is outgrowing the rest of the world.

Carrier spending has showed no signs of slowing, despite the current economic slowdown, research by iLocus discovered.
