Switching to VoIP could save businesses money

Huge savings can be made by using VoIP telephony, a website has claimed.

Making calls over a broadband internet connection rather than an analogue phone line can result in a drop in overheads and IT expenses, smallbusiness.co.uk claims.

According to research released in 2006, even small firms in the UK were spending over £300 in fixed-line and £400 in mobile phone calls.

Reductions can be made when two businesses are using the same VoIP provider, whereby calls are free.

Phoning a UK or Ireland landline is often free, depending on the provider, for British VoIP users and calling overseas is also cheaper than with traditional phone connections.

Website CIO Today also recently reported that packaging hosted VoIP with a call centre could also cut business communications costs.

It explained this could negate the need for upfront costs and allow an organisation to operate a virtual contact centre, offering an alternative to setting up a traditionally staffed call centre at a cost of up to $20,000 (£10,000).
