VoIP growth continues

The European VoIP market is outperforming the rest of the world and the market is continuing to grow, according to research.

VoIP access server licenses shipped worldwide increased by 67 per cent and there has also been a 35 per cent rise in traffic, according to the ninth annual global VoIP update by iLocus.

As yet, there has been no evidence of a slowdown in carrier spending despite the economic slowdown.

It is speculated this may be due to wireline operators expanding into mobile communications to overcome landline losses and building their IP infrastructure to "remain relevant".

All major operators in Europe, the study found, have a VoIP offering in place.

Recent research has found using hosted VoIP services may save companies money on their business communications costs.

In particular CIO Today predicts money could be saved in setting up a contact centre, as VoIP is said to be an inexpensive alternative to traditional phone systems
