25% of businesses 'deploy VoIP despite security concerns'

A quarter of businesses have deployed VoIP despite having security concerns, it is claimed.

The Yankee group, the US-based connectivity experts, say the other three-quarters are looking to install it within the next two years, even after they have been made aware of risks in moving telephony to a data network, ComputerWeekly.com reports.

Compromise and negotiation is required to strike a suitable security versus call quality balance, the website states.

It is also recommended by the Yankee Group that companies are prepared and understand whether or not they are ready for VoIP services before they go down the road of installing them.

Consultants should be hired to perform an assessment so chief information officers can justify the costs of a telephony upgrade should they go ahead with, the group explains.

A recent survey by the Computing Technology Industry Association has shown security risks associated with mobile communications and remote working are the primary concern for chief information officers.

Loss or theft of data and phishing attacks are said to be among the perceived threats.
