Vendors 'should diversify for customers'

At a recent industry conference the unified communications sector has been described as a "broad category", a source reports.

Robert Smithers, chief executive officer of Miercom, said while the category is general many suppliers are looking for specific things so vendors should "carefully consider" where they are heading, reports ITBusinessEdge.com.

The comments were made at the Interop conference, where Mr Smithers also highlighted the potential for unified communications to be specific to allow it to cater for many clients.

It was decided certain aspects of the communications category can be introduced at each time, meaning it "can be many things to many people", stated the website.

When assessing the current products on the market Mr Smithers highlighted the difference between them all, showing vendors are taking different approaches with the technology.

Another conference recently stated unified communications is the next big thing in the industry, with video being predicted as one potential growth area for companies around the world, CIOL.com reports.
