Unified communications is 'next big thing'

A conference has recently determined unified communications is the next big thing in the industry, with few roadblocks remaining.

The Voice Over IP 2008 Conference held recently highlighted many countries are already taking the next step in the communications tool and using a v6 server to help, reports CIOL.com.

Another issue to be derived from the industry meeting was that video is the next area set to grow in the unified communications arena, with one attendee, Jasjit Sawhney, chairman and chief executive officer of NET4India, saying the world is going voice.

The industry representative also told the source: "By the year 2020, 87 per cent of the world would be using unified communications."

Amit Mehta, director of unified communications at Microsoft India stated the only obstacle which stands in the way of increased adoption is the lack of awareness of the need to boost internet speeds.

Robert Smithers, chief executive officer of Miercom, stated unified communications is a very broad category, but each client will have specific needs, meaning vendors must vary their products, ITBusinessEdge reports.ADNFCR-1335-ID-18800724-ADNFCR
