Unified communications 'increasingly important'
 
With a burgeoning number of communication tools at the disposal of employees in the modern workplace, systems need to be in place to manage the complex interactions between them.

Such is the opinion of the National Computing Centre, which states that Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telecoms and other voice communications, email, voicemail and instant messaging all play an increasing part in the day-to-day running of a business.

As a result, having an effective unified communications strategy in place is of paramount importance, the organisation believes.

The sector is "starting to show signs of maturity and truly bringing voice and data services together into a single point on the desktop", National Computing Centre states

It adds that, for businesses at the forefront of employee management, unified communications has been "one of the major buzzwords" in the industry in recent years.

Furthermore, it asserts that enterprises should set out a communications roadmap and ensure that any provider chosen is able to fulfil business demands with full confidence.

Previously the centre launched a guide intended to demystify information risk for businesses.
