Unified comms take up 'high among all firms'

The growth in popularity of converged, hosted and unified communications has meant that the services are now being employed by businesses of all sizes, it has been claimed. Whereas in previous years IP-borne business communications tools have been the reserve of large corporations and conglomerates, vendors and resellers are now providing firms of all sizes with technology that is tailored to specific requirements, What PC suggests. "Where bandwidth-hungry, network-intensive applications like VoIP, video and wireless access used to enjoy only a minimal profile among smaller businesses, they are now much more commonplace," comments industry analyst Peter Airs in the online publication. Resultantly, businesses are coming to realise that to take full advantage of new technologies, it is important to ensure that secure, robust network solutions are in place that can support the new services, it notes. Elsewhere, the Globe and Mail asserts that growth in the global VoIP market has been particularly driven by businesses looking to take advantage of the reduced rates for international calling, with IP telephony offering businesses an increasingly diverse set of communications tools.
