Unified comms 'encourages cooperation'

As more firms adopt unified communications, effective IT management has become a matter of cooperation and cross-functionality, it has been suggested.

Online resource Network World reports that in the past, new technological developments have been implemented by IT managers that want a degree of control over the way products and services are used.

However, with unified communications IT staff are realising that implementation needs to be collaborative if business gains are to be fully realised.

"Numerous organisations ... have assembled cross-functional teams to make recommendations and/or decisions on what components of unified communications to deploy, when and why," the publication comments.

One of the most important considerations in collaborative unified communications deployments is to include branch workers in discussions of how software and technology should be implemented, the resource concludes.

Elsewhere, IT Business asserts that unified communications strategies address the commercial need to increase productivity and talent retention, provide business continuity, simplify IT and improve environmental credentials.
