Unified comms 'cannot be ignored'

An industry analyst has reported that to ignore the recent debate surrounding the diverse benefits of unified communications deployments is a dangerous move for businesses. Melissa Chua notes in Computer World Magazine that some analysts are likening the shift to unified communications with the emergence of mobile communications experienced as cellular networks became popular. However, Ms Chua asserts that it is important for businesses to define what is meant by the term, with some commentators taking a software-centric approach, while others examine unified communications in terms of its effects. "With the myriad of unified communications strategies marketed by vendors today, the question as to whether unified communications is hardware or software centered inadvertently arises," she explains. Elsewhere, Techworld is also advising businesses to implement converged communications deployments that allow IT managers to operate with visibility and control - with security architecture needing to respond to the new requirements of streamlined business communications.
