Service providers could benefit from limited access to UC

Opportunities could exist for service providers as very few people have access to unified communications (UC) solutions with "advanced functionalities", it has been revealed.

Very few people have devices which give them the ability to send instant messages and call people from any device, be it a fixed or mobile phone, computer or TV, according to research by telecommunications market insight company Ronin Corporation.

A web survey of 2,000 people across France, the US and the UK found this is resulting in customers finding the prospect of converged mobility attractive.

One in four respondents to the poll said the ability to make calls over Wi-Fi via dual-mode phones is "highly appealing", with current VoIP users and owners of data-enabled mobiles said to be particularly enthused by these services.

It is possible to run VoIP services over conventional business mobiles if Wi-Fi is enabled.

This capability has been listed as one of features of the new Blackberry Bold which is said to increase functionality.
