Network convergence 'an important challenge'

A new report has found that data and system security are two key challenges posed to IT managers, with a converged approached to network management needed to handle the task.

The IDC study finds that as business communications requirements have evolved, the boundaries between security, storage and system management are increasingly blurred.

According to its findings, IT managers are increasingly looking to converged approaches to network management. They also depend on products and services that can adapt to the changing requirements of their business structure.

Increasingly, the report concludes, business communications managers are looking to combine security, storage and system management services in conjunction with network partners, using hosted services much more readily to reap the benefits of unified communications.

For businesses adopting unified communications strategies, Express Computer advises that "every area of functionality involved in unified communications can be implemented separately and provides genuine business value on its own".

The publication asserts that firms must look to install a deployment that fits the security needs of individuals' businesses.
