Innovative features 'can be added to unified communications'

Unified communications can be tailored to include more innovative features, it has been claimed.

According to computing.co.uk, product development director at Azzurri Tony Collett said many IT leaders regard the technology as simply including a range of voice, data and video technologies.

However, he also pointed out that solutions can be made which include innovative IP applications from Web 2.0, which can provide advantages to business communications.

Mr Collett told the news provider: "It is worth remembering that Generation Y, who have grown up knowing only Web 2.0, email, SMS, wireless access everywhere and anywhere, will be expecting these applications in the workplace to work in the most efficient manner."

In addition, Joshua Holbrook, director of enterprise research at analyst Yankee Group, claimed businesses may be cautious when adopting the technology, often choosing to start with a basic VoIP deployment and moving on from there.

Last month, creative writer at Telchemy Robert Merrill told TMCnet that firms should carry out a network assessment before implementing solutions such as VoIP and unified communications.
