Increasing uptake for unified communications

Hospitality companies and hotels are increasingly opting for unified communications, it has been claimed.

Matthew Nickasch, a network management assistant at the University of Wisconsin, suggested on networkworld.com they are increasingly moving away from traditional telephony.

This migration to new technology is being prompted by competition, according to Mr Nickasch.

As an example, he said features like multi-line functionality, colour screens and the ability to advertise in rooms can be beneficial to hotel guests and firms alike.

Falling prices are likely to encourage increasing numbers of companies to move away from traditional telephony and adopt converged IT and telecommunications solutions, he said.

He added that analogue telephony is "becoming a liability" and that "maintaining thousands of feet of cable, supporting two cable plants" is best left in the past.

Industry analysts IDC argued recently unified communications is a key technology which could help business process efficiencies and address their carbon footprints.
