IDC puts UC forward

Unified communications (UC) are driving forward businesses it has been claimed.

Increased growth is being achieved by allowing enterprises to process efficiencies and reduce the size of their carbon footprint.

According to IDC, UC solutions can be used to align communication systems with business processes.

David Cannon, programme manager for telecommunications with the global IT researcher, said business communication is on "the cusp of a new era in which it will play a central role" in helping workers.

He said: "Unified communications transforms commonplace business applications into smart, intuitive, collaborative environments for instant decision making and fast turnaround."

A recent report suggested the need for UC is pressing if connectivity is to avoid becoming "dis-unified".

IT Director reported too many points of contact were making communications too complicated for the user and many businesses were feeling growing telecoms costs despite the lower supplier tariffs with the new technology.
