Fifth revolution predicted

Driven by ubiquitous high-speed unified communications, one publication has forecast a fifth revolution in networking and computing.

Online resource The Engineer predicts that as unified communications technologies take off, a fifth revolution will result in truly converged interaction in a fully-digitised working environment.

"With a single click, you will be able to reach people instantly, no matter where you are. Of course, you will also have control over who can reach you - and how," the publication predicts.

Unified communications will allow users to seamlessly switch between voice, text and video while on the move, with phone conversations merging into video-conferences as per business communications requirements.

Enabling this seamless interaction will be the adoption of a single digital identity that allows colleagues and clients to contact an employee on any device using just his or her name, the resource concludes.

Meanwhile, TMCnet notes that unified communications are allowing businesses to break down communications barriers imposed by the multiple devices, physical separation and time differences experienced in the globalised working environment.
