Diverse factors 'driving unified communications'

A wide variety of factors are set to push forward the uptake of unified communications in the coming months and years, it has been suggested.

Datamonitor believes that economic, social and environmental mores will all come into play in the developing application of such technology by businesses across the globe.

It has produced a report which identifies such a change in communications strategies as a "compelling proposition" for modern organisations.

Aphrodite Brinsmead, a technology analyst for the research firm, suggests that larger numbers of companies will treat voice business communications and other means of information transfer as a managed service.

"Presence and unified messaging can help keep home workers connected, meaning less time is spent commuting, and video conferencing can be used instead of long-distance travel to meetings," she adds.

Datamonitor provides business analysis across a wide range of sectors to inform industries about likely developments.
