Business 'moves towards seamless comms'

Business telecoms have come a long way in the past decade and truly integrated systems are now becoming a reality for firms adopting unified communications, one analyst comments.

Writing in the Financial Times, Stephen Pritchard argues that for many firms, communicating effectively is still a problem, with workers juggling a number of devices in and out of the office.

He cites research which found that 93 per cent of businesses had missed deadlines because of an ineffective communications network infrastructure.

As the number of competing technologies grows, he argues, the danger is that businesses become less effective.

Mr Pritchard states that the resolution is a unified communications system, which allows mobile phones and other devices to interact directly with a centralised phone system, as well as providing an infrastructure that can evolve and adapt with the company.

Furthermore, as technology develops, unified communications will become a viable option for an ever-increasing number of companies, he writes.

TMCnet cites a report that supports Mr Pritchard's observations, with InStat asserting that new unified communications deployment figures are spread across businesses of all sizes.
