Unified comms adopted by UK college

One of the UK's ten largest colleges has adopted a unified communication server in order to converge its voice network over three separate campuses, reports Public Technology.

The project has been initiated in keeping with Leicester College's e-Strategy.

It will include the establishment of a VoIP network and a Wi-Fi facility.

Leicester College said it had decided to introduce the communication network now as two of its campuses are being refurbished and a £20 million campus called Abbey Park is currently under construction.

Staff members who visit the three campuses will be able to access the wireless VoIP network through dual band Wi-Fi phones. This may result in a mobile phone bill saving of up to 40 per cent, according to the website.

In addition, students and staff will be able to use voicemail, wireless access and hot-desking.

Paul Chapman, head of Libraries and e-Strategy at Leicester College, said the introduction of the service will help the college "offer our part-time learners a fully rounded online campus experience to ensure they meet their potential".

Courses such as health and beauty, catering and floristry are offered at the college.ADNFCR-1335-ID-18670966-ADNFCR
