Consolidation of many types of communications through the deployment of unified communications solutions is leading to increased staff productivity, it is claimed. In addition, IT departments can become more efficient through adopting these services as they will only have to work through one system, according to networkworld.com. Faster decision making and cost savings are the end result for businesses, the website claims. Security threats are said to be "increasingly quiet", although firms have been cautioned to keep their security software up-to-date to prevent breaches such as hacking affecting the system. The website states that adopting encryption and "more sophisticated security" technologies can also prevent future threats. Recent research by Psytechnics found staff need to be trained in unified communications for the benefits of it to be fully reaped. Of 100 professionals surveyed by the research firm, nearly three-quarters stated employees need to be adept to both networks and voice and video applications.
