Firms still 'lack understanding' of UC

Some firms still lack a clear idea of how best to adopt a unified communications (UC) strategy, according to a spokesperson from analyst firm IDC.

Commenting on an upcoming unified communications summit hosted by the company, Nora Freedman, senior research analyst, said: "Despite heavy promotion of UC products and services by an entire ecosystem of solution providers, customers are still struggling to understand which solutions are most relevant to them and where they should begin."

In this aim, the summit - which will be held at the New York Marriott Downtown on June 10th 2008 - will highlight how unified comms can be used to help lower bottom-line costs and generate incremental revenue opportunities while avoiding potential problems of implementation.

Following from research conducted by the group, subjects under discussion will include the dramatic benefits available when using unified communications in contact centres, as well as best practice guidelines and business case examples.

A recent report from IDC suggests that VoIP will be one of the key purchases made by firms in the coming year, with virtual network operator services also featuring prominently.
