UK firms 'ready for unified comms'

Around 42 per cent of UK businesses are currently considering adopting unified communications, it has been found.

In a new survey of 110 top UK firms, business analytics company SAS found that while 14 per cent of firms currently have unified communications strategies in place, more than two-fifths stated that they were considering a converged deployment for the future.

As well as demonstrating an increase in the popularity of unified communications, top-performing UK firms are also looking to adopt more flexible remote working practices, with 94 per cent of respondents using mobile workers to conduct business operations.

Citing the report, news resource Irish Dev notes that in May 2007, only 69 per cent of businesses had mobile workers.

"UK businesses are now embracing flexible working practices and have rightly recognised that unified communications solutions are a key enabler in that process," commented Charles Davis, chief executive officer at SAS.

Meanwhile, a newly released report by analyst firm IDC also notes that smaller businesses are increasingly looking to consolidated security and network solutions for business requirements.
