IT studies recommended 'to avoid employee dissatisfaction'

Businesses should conduct an annual satisfaction survey to identify those employees dissatisfied with the rate of change of IT within their workplace.

The recommendation by industry analyst Gartner follows research indicating more than 50 per cent of users will be left disappointed with the slow rate of change in their organisation by 2013, an increase of 30 per cent this year.

However, its survey of 360 IT professionals also suggests less technologically adept users may be left behind by upgrades.

Tom Austin, vice president of Gartner, says businesses should take a "segmented" approach to changing their IT systems, aiming the latest technology at early adopters.

He adds: "Most organisations will be better off starting with users who are already pining for the new technologies they believe will improve their ability to do their jobs.

"If these users are not catered to as a priority then they will source the technology they need from outside of the enterprise."

Meanwhile, recent research by CIO Connect has revealed IT managers are preparing themselves for a tough year, with many expecting their budgets will be cut in the next 12 to 18 months.
