Year ahead looks rosy for TEM

Rapid growth has been predicted for the innovative communications process known as telecoms expense management (TEM).

The automated monitoring of a business' telecoms systems has grown substantially over the past year as firms seek to save on the cost of dealing with their data and communications.

But speaking to TMCnet, John Shea, the chief marketing officer at a US-based TEM firm, highlighted Gartner figures which suggest that the market is to grow by about 30 per cent in 2008.

"The already strong demand for wireless and unified wireline and wireless expense management solutions has increased dramatically as companies have expanded their use of corporate wireless devices or services," he said.

Mr Shea added that feedback from customers and better intergration with business intelligence is pushing TEM to "a whole new level of value".

"Before, much of the hard return on investment came from spend reduction through the discovery of billing errors," he said.

"Now, business intelligence tools that mine the invoice and inventory data help provide the data necessary for management to make more intelligent network decisions."
