Budget cutting could be 'top trend'

With the prospect of an economic downturn looming, cost cutting strategies may become an evermore prominent feature in IT management, it has been suggested.

Commenting on issues addressed at a recent Gartner conference, Patrick Thibodeau, a Computer World correspondent, has suggested that reducing overheads in business communications may become a pressing issue for chief information officers (CIOs).

Ellen Kitzis, an analyst at Gartner, is reported as saying that CIOs will have to respond quickly to executive decisions to cut IT budgets and need to act decisively in doing so.

A host of management techniques were under discussion at the Gartner Expo, with increased use of virtual network operators and audited printing outputs both touted as effective solutions.

Networks and telecoms analyst Philip Redman identified telecoms expense management as an effective costcutter, which was said to save firms between ten and 35 per cent on telecoms costs.

For those looking to save on mobile communications, TMCnet suggests that mobile unified comms are an effective way to mobilise workforces without hurting bottom lines.
