US 'spends big' on TEM

American businesses spent more than $29 billion (£14.56 billion) on telecoms expense management (TEM) last year, it has been noted.

In a recent announcement, the Telecoms Expense Management Industry Association (TEMIA), the organisation for the TEM industry in the US, noted that effective telecoms management has clearly become a primary concern for businesses.

The TEMIA study involved interviews with all 30 of its members, with total telecoms spending in the US identified as reaching more than $350 billion.

As such, TEM has become one of the biggest single areas of telecoms spending among US firms, the group asserted.

"Telecommunications costs and inventory continue to provide a tremendous savings opportunity for business and government. Enterprises are increasingly seeking outside help from TEM service providers," commented David Spofford, president of TEMIA.

Elsewhere, industry journal TMCnet notes that TEM is an important part of a roadmap to creating a long-term strategy for wireless spending that can reduce outgoings by as much as 50 per cent.
