TEM stems 'rising comms costs'

With concerns over market conditions, telecoms expense management (TEM) can be an effective way to reduce the costs associated with new telecoms technology, it has been suggested. According to US-based comms firm Expansion Plus, the need to cut expenses across all business areas is becoming not simply beneficial, but "necessary for survival". With telecoms reported as one of the top five corporate expense categories, the firm asserts that substantial savings are to be made by pursuing a telecoms expense management policy, in turn contributing to improved corporate health in a tightened financial environment. Citing research by Gartner, the company states that ten per cent of telecoms costs are incurred for services that are unused, such as "old expensive cell phone plans, or worse, cell phone services for employees who have long since left the company". Elsewhere, the group suggests that particular savings can be made when adopting a telecoms expense management audit for wireless devices, with providers increasingly offering versatile tracking usage to optimise rate plans.
